Made in Mexico of volcanic stone, the molcajete is among the world's oldest culinary tools. The volcanic stone provides the ideal grinding surface for spices or making some delicious and fresh salsas and guacamoles.
Seasoning: Before first time use, grab a small handful of white rice and place it in your molcajete with a tablespoon of water. White rice is the best option so you can spot how much debris needs to be removed. Grasp the pestle in one hand and begin to grind the rice in a circular motion around the entire molcajete.
Care: Wash with hot water and a stiff brush. Remember, avoid using soap so your food doesn't end up tasting soapy. Wait until molcajete is completely dry before storing.
