These strainers are made of Barro rojo, or red clay, by a cooperative of women living in San Marcos Tlapazola - a rural Zapotec village outside of Oaxaca, Mexico. For 20 generations, the village has specialized in making cookware and tableware out of the red clay found in that region by the potters who are all women. These rustic strainers will add a rustic beauty to your kitchen and also a perfect housewarming gift! Because they are handmade, no two pieces are exactly the same.
